What’s a realistic deadline?

This isn’t how long your specific project will take — it’s the minimum time to allow for copyediting from the date work begins. Add time on top for your own post-edit review and any rewriting.

100K words or more	Minimum seven weeks
80K–99K words	Minimum six weeks
60K–79K words	Minimum five weeks
40K–59K words	Minimum four weeks
16K–39K words	Minimum three weeks
8K–15K words	Minimum two weeks

Your editor may be scheduling your project among or after others already on her calendar, so your actual turnaround depends on her availability — never assume your document will be edited sooner than these minimums.
