Brandy Patton has been a professional editor and proofreader for 20 years, with experience across medical and scientific journal articles, standardized assessment tests, newspaper articles, health education training and course curriculum, social media, oral histories and biographies, and both nonfiction and fiction. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in English, and is well-versed in the AMA Manual of Style, the Chicago Manual of Style, and the AP Stylebook.

Nonfiction is where she spends most of her time and where she'd most want to be known—health and wellness, personal development, and professional content in particular. She especially enjoys copyediting nonfiction and proofreading fiction, and is happiest working on projects that help people learn, grow, or simply make life a little better.

Brandy likes to get to know a project before she begins, typically starting with a conversation to understand your goals and answer any initial questions. Once the review is underway, her focus shifts to giving your manuscript the attention it deserves—she'll reach out if something needs immediate clarification or is worth discussing further, but otherwise you can expect a thorough edit with detailed markups, a style sheet, and clear queries where needed. After you've had time to review her edits, she's happy to answer follow-up questions and offers a complimentary second pass over any changes you've made in response to her comments.
